Q is for Quireboys

Hola lovely A - Z'ers! Another cheeky music post for the letter Q. I give to you a lovely little offering from 1990 by British Rawk 'n Rollers, Quireboys.

It's a shame that these lads came along at the end of the eighties really. Britain's answer to Bon Jovi, Poison, Guns 'n Roses and Motley Crue all rolled into one. Quireboys, now known as London Quireboys for some weird reason, were formed in 1984, but didn't really make it until the end of the eighties, which was when that particular brand of rock was on the decline and the grunge of Nirvana, Pixies and Pearl Jam was on the way up, staring at the floor, singing songs about drug addiction, homelessness and being all serious man and like, deep.

Don't get me wrong here, Grunge was an important part of rock history. In a strange way, it had to be all anti establishment and shoe gazing. Some great, great songs came out of that era and stand the test of time. For me though, I like my rock and roll with a bit of swagger, a glint in the eye and doing something naughty with the girl next door, somewhere her parents wouldn't like. The Quireboys, albeit late to the party, give both barrels, have all the chops and are extra naughty. That's why the girl next door went off with them.

Here is their biggest hit, Hey You. Hope you like it.

Still to be found touring regularly, playing to a loyal fan base and having it large, the Quireboys refuse to lie down and die. I love them for that. Proper rock and roll survivors.

Rocco's Random Number is 1234, which will take you to Mama Bear Musings. Here you will find posts on finding editions of the Hobbit in Latin and other musings. Nice and random. I like.

Rawk on,

W.

  1. Is it me or does the song sound very like something else that I can't quite identify? Thanks for sharing the Quireboys, I am glad they are still going, so many bands from the 80s just vanished. :)

  2. Awesome! Love all of those bands, and you can't go too far wrong with a good but of raw, 80s grunge!
